Research lines

The group is made up by 12 members specialized in energy, mechanization, thermotechnics, graphic expression and agroforestry modelling who work together to achieve a global approach into agriculture, livestock breeding and forestry management.

Group research lines are conducted from a global perspective made up by experts on energy, mechanization and agroforestry modelling working together.

  • Monitoring, modelling and control of environmental, animal and production variables in livestock farms.
  • Renewable energy implementation, sustainability and energy efficiency in rural areas. Animal welfare.
  • Precision farming. Smart farming.
  • Precision livestock breeding. Livestock farming mechanization.
  • Growing and harvesting systems for potatoes and forage crops (forage corn and herbages).
  • Logistical management for machinery fleets. Modelling, simulation and route management.
  • Optimization of underground seweage networks in agricultural soils.
  • Wood quality. Wood technological capability (physical and chemical) and products certification with improved tracing according to their application in first and second level of transformation industries.
  • Sustainable development of rural areas: Planning, management and use of decidous hardwood in cooperage.
  • Processing, valuing and use of by products and waste from agroalimentary industries.

This figure shows the scope of the research group which is  committed to the improvement of the rural environment using biosystems engineering taken to the boundaries of human knowledge.

In order to achieve this global approach we have experts in energy, mechanization and agroforestry modelling working together. In the energy area, there are four associate professors and a post graduate researcher working on renewable energies and energy efficiency in livestock farming. The highlights in the agroforestry mechanization group are precision farming, precision livestock breeding, farming systems, transportation efficiency and waste management, with seven associate professors working on these subjects. There are two associate professors and a research student working in the forestry modelling area. They pursue the appreciation of wood products with the use of quality certified products.

The outcome of the joint action from experts in energy and mechanization will be a workforce that will allow the development of smart farming and smart livestok breeding.
